Washing with the two bucket method. Keep it simple.

One can simply type in on google " how to wash a car " and see over 1 billion pages on how different methods of wash and their opinions on what it takes to get a car clean and to what standard is considered "clean".

For all intensive purposes in this blog post we will consider "clean" as having no dirt on the surface at a normal visible level with all the water beings removed with out leaving waterspots or residue. This is the standard we want you to strive for when following our washing method.

To start your washing adventure you will need a few key tools and products to get the job done well.

• Two buckets, medium to large size. Preferably buckets with a built in grit guard. A grit guard is a grill sitting in the bottom of the bucket which stops the wash mitt from going to the bottom of the bucket collecting all the fallen dirt that sits at the bottom. The grill allows the area at the bottom of the bucket to be a collector of all the grit.

• A very good washing mitt, do not cheap out, get something that has some quality fabric and or micro fiber material.

• Pressure Washer is necessary to spray off all the debris and dirt before you come in with the soap, this prevents you from scratching or swirling the car while you are washing with the mitt.

• A foam cannon or foam attachment for the pressure washer to spray a nice layer of foam over the car to pre-soap the dirt and grime allowing for a really easy wash process when coming in with the hand mitt.

• A leaf blower or detailer dryer. This will allow you to dry off all the water from the car to leave a spotless car finish.

• A "absorber" chamoix. This synthetic chamoix material is much better at absorbing then your traditional leather chamoix. You can use this to absorb any water that may collect that the blow dryer missed.

• A Micro fiber towel can be used in conjunction with the chamoix or on its own to help dry and do the final touches to make the vehicle look its best.

• A great wash soap that is not going to harm any of the plastics on the vehicle and is preferably PH neutral like the Glossbaus BAUS WASH soap.

• A good hose with a nozzle that has a adequate pressure to spray off soap.

• If you have all those tools that is great, you can get away with not having them all but we suggest you do get most of these.

Now lets start the wash procedure it, trying to not forget that cars are best washed in the shade and in fairly neutral temperature, ideally in range around 72 degrees fahrenheit.

First pressure wash off the entire car, being careful not to spray the water heavily into seals or crevices, if done incorrectly could cause serious damage. Be gentle with it till you get better control, but give it pressure enough to remove the dirt particles.

Then (if you have it) spray over the vehicle using the foam cannon. This pre-soaks the dirt and grime making it easier to remove. After you let this sit for a minute or two, you wash it off with the pressure washer.

Now your at the point when you will start actually hand washing the vehicle. Fill up both buckets with a good mixture of soap and water (reading instructions of course). One of these buckets will be your #1 bucket which is where a lot of the dirt will collect. Bucket #2 will be the bucket that is the second step to your dunk, this is the clean mixture you run your mitt through before touching the paint again.

See the common mistake is only have one wash bucket. You remove dirt from the cars surface and collect dirt particles in the mitt on each pass over the car. The dirt gets put into the bucket and some left on the mitt, which then passes over the car and scratches the car with tiny swirl marks.

The remedy is first after you pass over the vehicle you first dunk the mitt into the first bucket and try to really shake off the mitt and debris in that #1 bucket. Then you pass over to the second bucket with the mitt and do the same. This is rejuvenating the mitt for a fresh pass over the vehicle with minimal dirt on the mitt to cause swirl marks.

It is impossible to stop all or every micro scratch when you wash but the idea is to do as minimal damage as possible. This keeps the vehicle looking nice for a long time.

After you have used the mitt and washed off the soap the vehicle is now technically clean. If you have our "Sio2 Skin kit" which comes with the BAUS WASH soap, clay bar and our ceramic coating spray. You will be suggested to use a clay bar after a first major car wash, this will really clean up the car and remove those really hard to get off stains that normal washing will not remove. This is a fairly simple and straight forward process that does a world of difference to your vehicle.

So you have cleaned off your car but hold up... its not quite done yet.

You probably have a lot of standing water on the vehicle, now you will use the leaf blower or detailer blower to start blowing off all the water before it hard dries to the vehicle. This can take some time and you will learn how to get better at this process. You can then take a micro fiber and start cleaing up the crevices and edges, opening up jams and doors cleaning in the areas that water may have run into. This ensure a nice clean surface that is water spot free and clean as can be.
